Woodfuels and Conservation

The Bryn y Pys Estate has a long and proud heritage in North Wales, and has always emphasized the importance of local involvement, contribution and conservation.

As part of its woodland management and planting plans the Estate produces and supplies a range of recycled wood fuels - currently mostly small logs - to local outlets and individuals.

In the meantime, the Estate places great emphasis on the conservation and preservation of wildlife and habitats and in recent years the numbers of dormice, bats, butterflies, bees, hares and owls have flourished.

Wildlife cover crops around arable fields and grass margins now provide corridors of habitat from wood to wood, whilst the reduction of artificial sprays and fertilisers on the Park have encouraged native grasses to grow.

A wide range of tree planting takes place every year, whilst Government schemes such as 'Tir Gofal' and 'Glastir' have helped towards the costs of replacing over 1220m of hedgerows and the planting of an orchard.

Extensive renovation of Estate ponds has helped ensure the nurture of invertebrates, waterfowl and protected sedge and bogbean vegetation.
